Mathematics-Grades K-8- Tasks to Promote Reasoning and Problem Solving - GT Credit (Online course)
Limited Capacity seats available

Picture This: Your students are engaged in a math problem. All students are using their habits of mind to solve a problem head-on. After time, some students start to discuss different ways to solve the problem while others discuss how reasonable their answers are. As a teacher, you are excited as you watch your students communicate their results and justify their answers. Sound impossible? Not true! In this workshop, participants will learn and experience tasks that allow for multiple entry points to encourage solving problems through a variety of strategies and where reasoning, communicating, and justifying are the norm in the math classroom. These tasks, because of their inclusive design, are great for ALL students you are trying to reach including students with special needs, English Language Learners, gifted students, and struggling students in all grade levels.

In addition to PD credit, teachers will earn 6 units of G/T update credit.

Upon completing all the modules of the course, you will have resources, specific for your grade level, for rich problem solving tasks and ideas of when to incorporate them into your daily math block.

ALL - K-12 - Holy Graphic Novels, Batman!: Using Comics & Graphic Novels in the Classroom
Limited Capacity seats available

This course is designed for teachers of all subjects and levels.
Graphic novels offer text in small chunks, accompanied by images that assist readers in understanding without having to decode the meaning of each word. Therefore, the text is more accessible to ELLs, SPED students, and other struggling readers because comprehension is not solely reliant upon words; in short, the images help bridge students’ gaps in understanding that is gleaned from the words alone.
By offering alternative and ancillary texts that increase understanding by delivering the content at struggling readers’ instructional level, rather than their frustrational level, teachers will scaffold the learning for SPED students, ELLs, and other struggling readers—supporting their comprehension and empowering them to discuss content on par with their peers.
Participants will gain an understanding of:
contemporary literacy research that validates the use of graphic novels to assist struggling readers.
ways to incorporate comics and graphic novels into teaching.
the support of literacy skills through comics in all content areas.
Participating teachers will gain access to an all-level, all-subject, online bank of lesson plans to help incorporate comics and graphic novels into their curriculum.

Have you ever handed out a math problem and immediately had students raise their hands and say, "I don't get it," or "I don't know what to do"? They're ready to give up at the first sign of struggle! The important question is, what do you as the teacher do in this situation? Effective mathematics teaching uses students' struggles as valuable opportunities to deepen their understanding of mathematics. Join me for an interactive session where we'll rethink what it means to support students' learning, including acknowledging and using struggles as opportunities to learn. The end result? Students come to realize they are capable of doing well in mathematics with effort and perseverance in reasoning, sense making, and problem solving.

RTI Math - 1 - First Grade Math Fluency - Early Number, Addition, and Subtraction
Limited Capacity seats available

Humans across all cultures and through time have constructed beautiful mathematics to solve the problems around them, to mathematize their worlds, and to model their worlds mathematically. They constructed number systems to record how many, or how many more were needed, or how many altogether.

Join us for an examination of how our students develop big ideas, strategies, and models as their conceptual understanding emerges.

This course is recommended for any first grade teacher, math interventionist, special education or inclusion teacher who work with first grade students.

RTI Math - 1 - First Grade RTI at Core - Same Space Different Learning: Supporting the Sense-making Journeys of Young Mathematicians
Limited Capacity seats available

We want our practices to build mathematicians who understand the big ideas of math, create models of math ideas, have a strong sense of numbers, understand how math ideas are connected, solve a variety of math problems, reason mathematically, communicate their math ideas, and have a positive disposition. These are our beliefs for all of our students including those that have unfinished learning.

How do we get there with all learners? How do we meet our goals for all learners?

Children are in different (and multiple) places on their sense-making journey. What matters is how we understand, respond, and nurture them along wherever they are in their journeys.

Please join us in updating our beliefs about math, rediscovering math content, and modifying our instruction to match our new beliefs and content understandings. See first hand how math intervention resources will enhance math learning for all of our students with research informed practices that are interactive, engaging, and focused on the big ideas of mathematics.

This course is open to anyone who teaches first grade students - in core, inclusion, special education, intervention - or anyone who supports the learning as a coach or administrator.

Math- 2-5- Blended Learning in Math
Limited Capacity seats available

The audience is grades 2-5. Participants will learn about how you can use blended learning to enhance learning in your math classroom. This will reach multiple levels because of the resources that will be shared on google classroom. There is no prior knowledge required, but would be beneficial if teachers have heard of resources such as google classroom, Nearpod, Screencastify, etc.
Teachers will learn how they can use online resources such as google classroom and Nearpod to push out assignments, and to get data on how students are doing quickly. We will share how to use Screencastify to record yourself teaching a lesson to be used for intervention or as whole class. We will also share how we use these resources to incorporate spiral review into our classroom. This will impact student performance by getting students engaged and by allowing the teacher to get data on student performance more quickly. It also frees up time for the teacher to pull be able to differentiate and pull small groups. Teachers will leave with videos on how to use these resources, and ideas for ways to implement blended learning in their classroom.
Teachers will need a laptop or Chromebook.

Data analysis: Breaking down some common misconceptions
Limited Capacity seats available

Ever used a "heat map" to identify TEKS for reteaching, or worried that the STAAR exam is "too easy" because students "only" need to answer 50% of questions correctly? The Director of Research and Evaluation will break down some common misconceptions in Round Rock ISD surrounding data analysis. Primarily, that assessment data cannot be interpreted without understanding the difficulty of the test. We will use a set of accessible sports analogies to understand these concepts in an exciting and engaging session.

RTI Math - 5 - Fifth Grade Math Fluency - Multiplication and Division; Adding and Subtracting Rational Numbers

This course is recommended for any fifth grade teacher, math interventionist, special education or inclusion teacher who work with fifth grade students.

RTI Math - 2 - Second Grade RTI at Core - Same Space Different Learning: Supporting the Sense-making Journeys of Young Mathematicians

This course is open to anyone who teaches second grade students - in core, inclusion, special education, intervention - or anyone who supports the learning as a coach or administrator.
